Quality and Cleverness
Quite simply, dance games are fun, not considering the tremendous fitness and health benefits they offer. To remain fun, the systems MUST be extremely well made to withstand the onslaught of countless steps, jumps, twists and turns plus engage the players attention for years to come to make the systems sustainable. So when we say, the iDANCE2 system has been designed from the ‘ground’ up we are being quite literal. The success of the system lays under your feet, with the interactive foot controller or the ‘Dance Platform’ (Dance Pad). Although it seems obvious, but even research (PDF file page 191, 5.3.1) has shown, that the most important element in the success of Exergaming-Dance equipment is the Dance Pad. iDANCE2 was designed as a professional group fitnesss solution, as a result, it incorporates features that make the unit ideal for frequent use for up to 32 people as a portable or as permanent solution i.e. under-utlized multipurpose rooms or Aerobic areas in Gyms and Fitness centres.
Impact Arcade dance pads were designed by dance game specialists in close co-operation with the world’s best machine dancers, to ensure the highest level of product excellence and make sure the pads are responsive and accurate.
The dance pads are made of the highest quality, scratch resistant polycarbonate, with spill resistant internal components. The pads were also designed with maintenance in mind, and kudos for Positive Gaming doing so, good design should allow for all contingencies which many other companies fail to realise – see our ‘Media’ section for close up pictures of the high quality components.
The pads and associated components and peripherals are produced entirely in Europe by Arrowdance in the Netherlands. Arrowdance utilizes machining best practices and and adheres to EU policies for environmental impact, including the utilization of recycled materials where appropriate.
Accuracy in production is assured due to sophisticated injection-moulding and CNC milling processes. The figure above shows a typical ‘professional’ hard pad – Four directional arrow panels: Up, Down, Left and Right. The pads are wirelessy connected to the PC, have two grab handles for easy carrying and are non-slip and easy to clean for improved preventatitve maintenance.

The Fun Stuff
The video game software displays arrow charts on a large sceen (LCD TV or Projector). The arrow charts are comparable to sheet music for musical instruments. These arrow charts scroll up from the bottom to the top of the screen. Once the arrows reach a marker at the top, the player steps on the matching arrow on the dance pad. The arrows follow the beat and rhythm of the music, as does the player. As more complex arrow combinations appear the player must be able to twist, turn, jump and step in order to hit all the arrows.
Players begin at a basic level and are guided through the experience with positive and detailed feedback. The iDANCE2 requirements of timing, focus, muscle endurance, and stamina increase in direct proportion to the players increasing skill level.
